Welcome to the
Transylvania-O-Tour 2012, an event that aims to offer you an unforgettable week in
"the land of vampires". The tour starts in the heart of Romania, the
Town of Victoria, where back in 2001 the Latin Countries Cup was held. The town is surrounded by remarkable natural landscapes and challenging orienteering maps. After four days of training and visiting around Victoria we will move to the "unofficial capital of Transylvania", the
City of Cluj Napoca, where the
Transylvania Open will take place, one of the biggest Romanian orienteering competition which includes a long distance
WRE (IOF World Ranking Event).
Transylvania is often associated with
Dracula (Bram Stoker's novel and its film adaptations), and the horror genre in general, while the region is also known for the scenic beauty of its Carpathian landscape and its rich history.
Discover Transylvania, Europe's last wild frontier with its over 500 castles and fortfied churches as well as many other wonderful historic sites.
Many of these are set amongst vast forests where you can challenge interesting, technically and physically demanding
orienteering races, but you can also
climb the highest peaks of Romania in the Fagaras Mountains,
visit the castle of Dracula, see the
Transfagarasan the most dramatic and highest paved road in Romania built as a strategic military route (the 90 km road was constructed between 1970 and 1974, during the rule of Nicolae Ceausescu).
Discover the history of Dracula and Transylvania, try your
orienteering skills, climb the Fagaras and party with us, all between
20th and 26th of August 2012!
